These are my checklists of the CD's and LP's that I have found on the market since mid-1970. I made it to avoid buying duplicates and it can of course not replace a real discography of Umm Kulthums works, which is still very much needed. I am working at compiling one, and would like to get in contact with other collectors of Umm Kalthoum recordings. I am aware of two* quite serious efforts at creating lists of her songs but they are, regardless of being extensive, still incomplete. The information here draws heavily on the works of Virginia Danielsson and Frederic Lagrange but absolutely any source has been scrutinized and weighed some other sources although of shifting quality that has been helpful are Braune, Paul Vernon, the preliminary discography included in Ysabel Saïah's work is in big need of updating and none of the printed sources list any matrix- or catalogue numbers except for the information in Hachleff. I have also had help from various unprinted sources aswell as the pleasure of help from collectors and other knowledgeable persons both on and off the web.

I think the web where we can "go to the printers" virtually every day, should be a perfect place to update new findings on a more regular basis, and If anyone can supply more information about where to obtain other discographical information it would be a great relief to me. In the meantime I will continue updating this patchwork consisting of information culled from the above mentioned sources and any LP-records, any cassettes or CD's leaflet that come in my way.

If there is more than one track on an LP or CD each tracktime is given after the trackname, If only one of the tracks from a CD is issued on the LP it is indicated after the trackname, sometimes there is also crossreferences to alternate recordings of the same title. I have not always been able to compare the LP with the CD but in general there is more editing on the LP's, i.e shorter instrumental introductions, edited applause and so on. There are even a few cases were an entirely other recording session has replaced the LP version on the CD. Sometimes it is of some aid to compare times but due to the editing practise it is an uncertain one.

The list here presented needs much further editing and corrections! I present it as is although I have not yet been able to compare all the CD's .

In some cases the (Greek) Digital Press Hellas releases are identical with the (French) Sonodisc release but sometimes even the ones with same numbers are not identical. Sometimes the French version is more complete and has better sound. Maby the Greek have been reissued from other tape copies than the French or just edited differently.

Some explanation of the symbols in the below list:

A number in [] at the beginning of a line refers to the number of the Sonodisc CD-release.
[*] this symbol after a title indicates that I have not actually held that physical CD in my hand and that the information comes from a secondary source like a catalogue or similar. Times are included if available after the track title (measured from the CD) and the French transcription of the title is in square brackets [] followed by the tracktime on the Sonodisc pressing if available. If you think the list is a bit messy it is because it attempts to describe and bring some order to a far messier reality ;-) I am very thankful for any more information on differences in released material.

I know that they are on license from Egyptian SonoCairo but I have no idea how they are edited.
